However, if a customer would like to access the Internet on more than two computers, he/she may purchase a third party router that is capable of doing Network Address Translations (NAT).

Internet Trouble Shooting - Dial Up
Common Problems
Here are some of the most common errors you may encounter while connecting to or browsing the Internet via a dial up connection and suggestions for correcting the problem.
No Dial Tone
The No Dial Tone error message is received when the modem does not detect a dial tone on the line to which it is connected. Modems dial up to the Internet exactly the same way that you do when you make a phone call if no dial tone is present, no connection can be made. To resolve this problem, check the following:
- Make sure that the phone cord from your computer is plugged securely into the phone jack. If this connection comes loose, the modem may have problems detecting a dial tone.
- If you have the phone line from the computer plugged into a surge protector or a splitter, try bypassing these devices by plugging the line directly into the phone jack. If plugging the phone directly into the jack resolves the situation, then you know the problem is with your surge protector or splitter.
- If you have voicemail on your line, make sure you have cleared all new messages. Sometimes the "beep-beep-beep" indicator or stutter dial tone that notifies you of new messages can interfere with your modem's efforts to make a connection.
- Plug a regular phone into the phone jack and confirm that the phone jack is working correctly.
- Try a different phone cord.
Modem Not Responding
The Modem Not Responding error may occur after you have installed a new modem or other new hardware on your computer. This error may also happen if you have recently reinstalled your operating system (for example, Windows), and the software that controls the modem was not installed correctly. To resolve this problem, check the following:
- If you have an external modem, check to make sure that the modem is turned on.
- Restart your computer and then start the modem again.
- Make sure there are no applications running on your computer that may be attempting to access the modem. For example, applications such as fax software often use the modem.
- Uninstall your modem, and then reinstall it.
Invalid Log In
The Invalid Log In message is received when the incorrect username and/or password for an account has been sent to the server. This error usually occurs because the username and/or password have been entered incorrectly. To resolve this problem, check the following:
- Make sure you do not have Caps Lock turned on. Dial-up requires all lowercase letters. If Caps Lock has been turned on, press the Caps Lock key to turn it off. Then try logging in again.
- Restart your computer, and then try to log in to your account again.
- Verify that there is no static on your phone line. Static on the line can sometimes cause extra characters to be added to your username and password.
Dial-Up Error Codes
Below is a list of common errors you may encounter when using Dial-Up Internet service.
- Error 629: The port was disconnected by the remote machine. This error refers to a problem with the computer that is dialing in. This error can be caused by: Bad Modem or Driver, Dial-Up Phone Number Is Incorrect, Authentication Failure (Incorrect Username/Password), Incorrect Dial-Up Networking Configuration.
- Error 630: The port was disconnected due to hardware failure. This error usually occurs when there is a physical problem with the modem itself. Double-check your Dial-Up settings before attempting advanced modem troubleshooting.
- Error 645: Internal Authentication Error. This error can occur if the Require encrypted password option is enabled on the Server Types tab in the Connections Properties, or if an incorrect username or password have been entered. To resolve this problem, make sure encrypted password option is disabled, and then re-enter your username and password.
- Error 678: There is no answer. This error typically occurs when the phone number entry is incorrect. To resolve this problem, make sure your Dial-Up connection is using the correct dial-up number for your area.
- Error 691: Access denied because username and/or password is invalid. This error occurs when the username and/or password you have entered to connect to your account do not match the username and/or password PGTELCO Internet has on its servers. Occasionally this error can be due to a server problem; however, it is usually resolved by re-typing the correct username and password. Your username and password are both CaSe SeNsItIvE. Check to make sure you do not have Caps Lock turned on. To get a reminder of your password, contact PGTELCO Technical Support at 479-846-9700.

Internet Trouble Shooting Common Browsing Errors
404 Not Found
This error occurs when the requested Web page is not found on the host's server. This is one of the most common browsing errors, as it can easily be produced by entering a Web address incorrectly or by following an outdated bookmark. The best course of action is to try visiting the Web site without entering extended address information. If the content was simply moved to a different location on the site, you may be able to find the new location from the site's home page.
For example, if you entered the Web site address "http://www.example.com/browsers/test123.htm" and you received a 404 error, you could try entering "http://www.example.com/" instead to see if you can find the information you are looking for from the site's home page.
401 Unauthorized
You will see this error in cases where the web server is expecting some sort of authentication information, such as Username and Password. If the server does not receive this authentication, it may produce a 401 error. You can click the Refresh button to see if the browser will refresh the page and prompt you for a username and password. If not, you may need to contact the site's administrator to find a solution.
403 Forbidden
This error occurs when you do not have permission to view the content. This message usually means that the server's administrator has protected the content so that it cannot be viewed by the public. If you feel you are mistakenly receiving the message, you may need to contact the site's administrator to discuss your permissions.
500 Internal Error
This error usually means there is a technical problem with the server itself. The best course of action is to notify the site's administrator.
Network Connection Was Refused By Server
This is a fairly uncommon error that can occur if the server is currently overworked and is unable to handle any more visitors. Try refreshing the page a few times to see if you can connect with the server. If you are still unable to connect, try again later. If the problem persists, you may also want to contact the site's administrator.
Unable To Locate Host
Usually this error means that there is some type of connection problem between your computer and the server that is hosting the site. This can be caused by several conditions, such as an invalid domain name or a network failure. To find out more about this problem, try visiting a few other Web sites. If you encounter the same error message, there may be a problem with your Dial-Up or broadband connection. If you are able to connect to other sites, then there is likely some type of connection problem with the site from which you're receiving the error. If possible, contact the site's administrator.
Back to TopViruses & Spyware
Viruses and Spyware are two of the largest problems facing Internet users today. Viruses and Spyware can cause performance problems on your computer, and can also contribute to the loss of important files and personal information.
To combat computer viruses, we recommend that you use a virus filtering program--such as Norton Antivirus, McAfee or AVG. We also recommend that you regularly update the software (on a weekly basis, if possible), in order to keep up with the latest viruses. To help prevent the effects of spyware, you can install and run a number of free utilities that are found on the Internet.
